Be Transformed... by the Renewing of Your Mind
First of all - Happy New Year!!
You've all heard Romans 12:2, and January is a great time to use it. "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will." It's easy to see why this is a great verse for the new year; be transformed, renew your mind, normal new year resolutions.
So, what are some of these resolutions? Here are the top ten.
1. Lose weight
2. Get organized
3. Spend less/save more
4. Enjoy life to the fullest
5. Staying fit and healthy
6. Learn something exciting
7. Quit smoking
8. Help others in their dreams
9. Fall in love
10. Spend more time with family
All of these are great! Almost everyone has a desire to be healthier, stronger, thinner; but almost all of this is for our worldly bodies. Yes, it is important to keep our bodies healthy, but what about our spiritual side? Remember 1 Timothy 4:8, "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."
Maybe what needs changing isn't just our earthly selves, but our minds as well. On the list of resolutions, the first to be outwardly focused was #8, "Help others in their dreams," so maybe eating less isn't as important as making sure someone eats.
So while you're working on your resolutions, just remember, "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." (Hebrews 13:16)
