Love 'Em Like Jesus
This sounds simple. What is easier than loving people? The little ones running around and looking up at you with big eyes and wide smiles. The veteran in line who politely asks you for a slice of cake from the other side of the Cafe counter. Who wouldn't love the woman singing in chapel with both hands raised over her head in selfless praise?
But sometimes those children aren't so cute. They scream and kick and cause disruption because the chaos in their lives breeds more chaos in their actions. The man in line will be scarred and hostile, still fighting battles in his own mind. The woman in chapel will sneer and roll her eyes; why should she praise the God who let her family fall into this situation?
Jesus loves those people
The man standing by the highway with a cardboard sign, the mother living in her car, the children in the system, the runaway shivering on a park bench. Even when their situations manifest in acting out, chemical dependency, pure hostility. When the last person who they trusted used it against them, so they try to push you away. When they think you want something in return.
Even when it is hard, when they are unlovable, when we just don't want to. This is when we need to love the most. Only through loving them ourselves will our guests see the love of Jesus Christ, maybe for the first time. Maybe its the last time.
Our mission is to see lives changed. How? Love 'Em Like Jesus.
