"Those who hope in the Lord will find strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles..." Isaiah 40:31
Eagle Wings is Youth-at-Risk Program. Youth-at-Risk is a term for homeless children and young adults from 5 to 25 years of age. These youth are considered 'at risk' of an unsuccessful transition into adulthood or independence. They are considered more likely to continue the cycle of poverty, perhaps passed from a homeless mother to homeless child, who eventually becomes a homeless adult. Our program is aimed at breaking that cycle.
We focus on educating, encouraging, and building up our young guests. First, we provide them a safe space to be children and to learn social skills. As we build connections and trust with our guests, we encourage them academically, by continuing our partnership with the Board of Education, who offer after school tutoring. Running parallel is a curriculum that includes classes like problem solving, how to study, goals - setting and achieving, communication, and college/career prep. All of these are infused with Christian principles, applicable to everyday life.
As our guests reach young adulthood, we encourage them to pursue a higher education, learn a trade, and/or enter the work force. Agencies and organizations offer addiction counseling and workshops on gang prevention and conflict resolution. All of this combined and taught from childhood to early adulthood give our guests the support to break the chains of this vicious cycle.
Eagles Wings implement all of this with a foundation of constant Hope - empowering our youth to be all God created them to be, so they will Soar on Wings Like Eagles.
How to Volunteer
If you are interested in working with this ministry, you must be able to pass a background check. After attending training, an additional interest meeting, and passing your background check, you will be ready to impact the lives of our children and young adults!
You will be asked to follow a curriculum designed to meet the guests on their age level, or just play with the children. We have spots available for a summer program to run during the weekdays, in 2, 4, or 8 hour shift.
If you are interested or have any questions, please call us at 410-742-9356!
