HALO Reads

HALO Reads In Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties, 25% of all adults are considered to be “functionally illiterate”.

Functionally illiterate is a term used to describe reading and writing skills that are inadequate to cope with the demands of everyday life.
TThis means that they cannot:

 • Read to their children
 • Pass a driving test
 • Apply for a job
 • Write a letter or email
 • Read a medicine bottle
HALO Reads Hope and Life Outreach would like to change this statistic through

HALO Reads.

HALO Reads offers a free, confidential, one-to-one tutoring in basic literacy to adults aged 18 and over who have requested assistance.

To participate in HALO Reads three things must be done. First, register by visiting or calling the HALO office. Next, undergo a skills assessment to determine your reading ability. Finally, you must agree to meet with a tutor at least twice a week at a safe and convenient location.

If you know someone who has trouble reading, writing or spelling, please be sure to tell them about the HALO Reads program.

All HALO Read volunteers have completed intensive tutor training workshops.

HALO Reads is an affiliate organization of Pro-Literacy America.
